TRADE union campaigners fighting to save Remploy factories for disabled people are in Sheffield tomorrow collecting signatures on a petition which will be sent to the Government.
Members of the GMB union and disabled workers will be outside the Town Hall between 10.30am and 2pm lobbying members of the public to support their campaign.
It follows a report to the Government which recommends moving funding away from helping disabled workers in manufacturing to projects which find work for disabled people in the private sector.
The GMB fears it will lead to the closure of 54 Remploy factories and put 2,500 people out of work.
Phil Davies, GMB national secretary for Remploy, said, “GMB will staunchly defend these jobs and the communities they are in.”
