Parkin takes over the reins at Chesterfield automation expert

Sheffield businessman and entrepreneur Kevin Parkin has been named managing director of Knight Warner, the Chesterfield-based materials handling specialist.

Mr Parkin led the turnaround at 180-year-old Darnall-based heavy engineer DavyMarkham and its subsequent sale to $1 billion turnover Indian conglomerate Hindustan Dorr Oliver.

He is also chairman of revolutionary plastics recycling technology business R3 Products.

Knight Warner was founded in 1998, operates from purpose built premises in Staveley and makes equipment for the food and drink, steel, power, crane, rail, aggregates, water, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and canning industries.

The company says it chose Mr Parkin because of his wealth of experience in the international engineering sector, in addition to his accountancy, engineering and marketing qualifications.

Operations director Dave Knight said: “We have been searching for the right individual with the business acumen to help drive our business forward to the next level. Kevin ticks all the right boxes.”

Kevin Parkin said: “Knight Warner has an enviable market position in a broad range of industries.

“The opportunity to steer an innovative industrial automation company to a world-class position within all industrial sectors, together with the development of new applications within all industrial sectors and the development of new applications within the existing portfolio of products is an exciting challenge which I am delighted to accept.”

Mr Parkin’s role will include helping Knight Warner to develop international markets and working with university researchers to develop products and advanced manufacturing techniques.
