Among those attending was Dr Walid Albermani, 63, from Birmingham whose son Dr Sinan, is a development engineer in Forgemasters’ research and development department.

He said: “The entire day was a fantastic experience, to not only see different areas of the site but also to understand more about the company and the sector my son works for. I have thoroughly enjoyed myself.”

Forgemasters also staged another open day, during which 200 pupils from city schools were taken around the works by apprentices and a VIP tour for delegates to the Festival.
