Online retailer taps into new markets

AWARD-WINNING online retailer, MoreComputers .com, is targeting new markets on the back of being named Best Online Retailer in the PC Pro Awards.

MoreComputers was launched about five years ago, by Systems Assurance, a long-established, Sheffield-based supplier of IT equipment and associated services to corporate and government clients.

Its aim was to sell similar products to consumers and small computer services companies over the internet.

Despite the recession, the company has boosted sales by 14 per cent over the last year, to 5 million, increased profit by three per cent and succeeded in winning more local customers – increasing business from customers with Sheffield postcodes by 48 per cent.

Now, the company is aiming to broaden its appeal further, by launching a new consumer focused site,, offering an extensive range of electronic goods including cameras, MP3 players and phones.

MoreComputers' managing director, Chris Wheater, says the move has been prompted by convergence in computer products.

"A mobile phone is a computer, a TV displays your photos…" explains Mr Wheater.

While MoreComputers is designed for customers who are at home with technology and the jargon that surrounds it, MoreFrom is aimed at people who are interested from a consumer, rather than an enthusiasts, point of view.

"It's essentially a lot of the same products, but we are not pushing the scary computer stuff, we are pushing the iPods, TVs, laptops, gadgets, Sky boxes, radio controlled cars, portable DVD players," says Mr Wheater.

MoreComputers' marketing and operations manager, Brian Trevaskiss, says the new site is designed to be easy to use and very consumer friendly.

"People are increasingly looking for savvy ways to shop, especially in the lead up to Christmas and we hope the new site will prove a pleasant shopping experience," says Mr Trevaskiss.
