Sheffield City Region’s Local Enterprise Partnership has unveiled plans for a major drive to attract high-profile inward investments.
The LEP, which is replacing Yorkshire Forward, is launching a new business development and lead generation team that will work with council economic regeneration teams across the region.
LEP board member and Sheffield business man David Grey stresses there is no intention to replace council teams like Creative Sheffield, Rotherham Investment and Development Office and Invest in Doncaster.
Mr Grey says the new team will rely on the expertise of those organisations and its job will be to fill a gap that has opened up as local investment teams have seen their areas of responsibility broadened over the years.
“We need to be more aggressive in taking the City Region’s offer to the market,” says Mr Grey. “We need to generate more investment leads and then work in partnership to deliver as many of them as possible. It is clear that awareness of all that we have to offer should be much greater, not only in key markets such as London and the South East but also in the highly competitive foreign direct investment market.”
The new team’s job will be to work with organisations to identify and pursue national and international opportunities.
