Young entrepreneurs are invited to attend a special event to promote the creation of new products.

The sixth annual Startup Weekend will bring people together to launch new products and services that aim to solve problems and meet needs in the literature and music industries.

Attendees will be a combination of designers, entrepreneurs, authors, artists and creative problem solvers.

They will be invited to pitch ideas on the Friday night, build teams and then work all weekend on bringing their concept to life by speaking to customers, identifying potential revenue streams and building the product.

The teams will also have access to coaches and mentors with a wide range of experience and on Sunday evening, will present their literature startups to a panel of judges and members of the public.

The event has been organised by the University of Sheffield and takes place at the Enterprise Zone in Portobello between Friday, June 26, and Sunday, June 28.

Samantha Deakin, Startup support officer at the university, said: “We can’t wait to see what people come up with.

“We always have fantastic ideas pitched at Startup Weekend, but the music and literature theme is really exciting.

“What we see come out of this event could potentially change the way we consume, create and publish literature. We’re amazed at the response we’ve had to the Indiegogo campaign and so pleased to see the community backing grassroots events like this to support entrepreneurship in the city.”
