E.ON UK has announced that its Blackburn Meadows biomass power station in Sheffield generated electricity and synchronised with the local distribution network for the first time this week.

The £120m 30MW plant can power 40,000 homes by burning waste wood, ‘displacing’ the emissions of 80,000 tonnes of Co2 each year, it is claimed.
