A laser cutting and engraving firm has invested £500,000 in a new laser – one of the first in the UK.

Cutting Technologies of Barnsley is the proud owner of a Fiber laser, which will allow the company to compete for customers in new markets including healthcare, manufacturing and electrical components.

The machine can cut non-ferrous materials such as copper and brass more easily and at much greater thicknesses than previous lasers. It works at quicker speeds and greater efficiency, making laser cutting a viable alternative to twater jet cutting and punching.

Jane Robinson, director of Cutting Technologies, said: “We’ve been keeping an eye on the Fiber laser market for a while but feel the time is right now to invest.

“The latest machines are head and shoulders above the first ones This is our first, but we’re planning to buy another before the end of the year.

“We’re definitely seeing an upturn in the market and we want to be in the perfect position to capitalise on the increasing confidence. We’re investing heavily in staffing, marketing and new equipment and have a clear strategy for growth.”
