A MAJOR broadband firm has signed up with South Yorkshire’s superfast Digital Region network - and will be the first to offer a Sky-busting TV, phone and internet package.

Littlebigone.com will go head-to-head with the big boys including Sky, Virgin and BT, in a major boost for Digital Region, the first regional superfast network in the UK.

Littlebigone will enjoy a monopoly in many areas thanks to Digital Region’s network which will cover 80 per cent of the county by the end of the year.

With average speeds of 37Mbps it is claimed customers can watch live television, download a film and make HD video calls at the same time.

It also offers business services.

Managing director, Teresa Robbins, said it was in a different league to the ISPs currently signed up with Digital Region. She added: “When the internet is slow it takes the enjoyment out of using it.

“You end up feeling as though you are wasting time.

“But when it’s instant, as it should be, it really makes a difference.”

Jeremy Sheehan, of Digital Region said the TV, phone and broadband ‘triple package’ was a big step forward.

He said: “There is a tremendous interest in us providing next generation broadband services and there are a lot of developments in the pipeline.”

Digital Region is owned by the four South Yorkshire councils and Yorkshire Forward.

It has also received £27m from the European Regional Development Fund.

n BT aims to provide superfast broadband to two-thirds of the country by 2015.
