Parcel firm DPD, which claims to be the fastest growing in the country, has invested £1.2m in a new depot on the Smithy Wood Industrial Estate in Sheffield.

The new site, which replaces depots in Chapeltown and Barnsley, can handle 3,500 parcels an hour. Boss Dwain McDonald says the firm is expecting an increase in business through its one-hour timeslot delivery service, called Predict.

He added: “Predict has helped us win over £70m of new business from online retailers last year. DPD is the fastest growing parcel company in the UK.”

In November DPD announced a £175m UK expansion programme which includes 10 new depots. The company employs 6,700 people in the UK from over 40 locations.
