Over 30 new jobs will be created by the arrival of a new national bank in the heart of Sheffield city centre, according to Government officials.

The British Business Bank has a total of £1bn new capital and £2.9bn from other Government schemes. It has begun lending to small and medium-sized companies and will be based at Foundry House, Millsands, off West Bar . The offices are already home to Capital for Enterprise, the government’s investment company, which has been working closely with the Business Bank team already. The complex is also home to the Health and Safety Executive.

The bank was formally launched in October but had not before now been given a permanent home.

Deputy Prime Minister and MP for Sheffield Hallam Nick Clegg is believed to have lobbied strongly for the project to be based in Sheffield.

Officials say the fact Sheffield had available office space was a key factor.
