Two South Yorkshire firms vie with eight from the rest of the region when it comes to providing advice on issues relating to projects, energy and natural resources.

DLA Piper’s “superb” knowledge of commercial contracts and regulatory environments secures it a top tier ranking.

The firm is also praised for its strong credentials in the transport sector, which has included advising Birmingham City Council on a Highways Private Finance Initiative maintenance project, valued at £2.7 billion.

Second ranked Nabarro’s expertise with the Building Schools for the Future programme and projects involving the sport and leisure sector is highlighted.

Its practice, which is headed by Tim Shaw and includes Elizabeth Cooper and Mark Rocca, is also noted for regularly dealing with public sector regeneration projects, including work for Sheffield City Council, and key brownfield regeneration schemes involving UK Coal.
