A South Yorkshire MP has highlighted the importance of apprenticeships in a House of Commons debate on youth education and training opportunities.
Dan Jarvis, Labour MP for Barnsley Central, spoke of the importance of ‘encouraging young people to realise their ambitions’.
He said: “Despite the wealth of talent on show in Barnsley and across the country, this is a tough time to be growing up and our young people are finding it increasingly difficult to get on.”
Mr Jarvis highlighted the ‘success’ of the Barnsley Apprenticeship Pledge scheme, set up by Barnsley College and involving local businesses.
The 40-year-0ld former British Army officer said: “Apprenticeships provide skills and the opportunity to tailor a workforce that meets businesses’ needs.”
