Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne has joined a chorus of praise for South Yorkshire’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.
Speaking after visiting the centre, Mr Browne said: “The UK is a country that has long since punched above its weight when it comes to world-class research.
“This is demonstrated strongly at the AMRC in Sheffield, where companies come together to develop cutting edge technology.
“I have met with a number of companies that work at the (Advanced Manufacturing) Park, and I have seen the positive contribution it makes to their economic competitiveness. Having a hub dedicated to manufacturing businesses means that they can achieve so much more than they could working alone.
“Manufacturing is vital to this country’s export-led recovery, and having a centre to research and solve the problems it faces is invaluable. I have been impressed with what I have seen here and look forward to hearing more good things.”
Mr Browne’s comments followed a speech by Boeing UK chief Sir Roger Bone, who said the significance of the AMRC to the global aerospace giants could not be overstated.
