Market traders in Rotherham received a visit from the town’s Mayor and Mayoress as part of a campaign to promote the stalls.
First citizen John Foden and his wife Kath were hosted by markets manager Robin Lambert, who introduced them to a variety of traders and explained about the recent progress and future plans for the indoor and covered markets.
Mr Lambert said: “It was great to have the opportunity to show the mayor how the markets are flourishing, and for him to be able to meet a selection of both our established traders and those new to the markets.”
Improvements to the markets included the expansion of the Tuesday street market from this week, with the opening of a new fresh produce section on Upper Millgate.
A Thursday Bazaar in the outdoor covered market opens on June 27. The mayor’s visit was part of the Love Your Local Markets campaign. Other activities in Rotherham included an arts competition and the chance for stallholders to ‘trade for a tenner’ if at the market for the first time.
