Sheffield’s Master Cutler has said he hopes a new buyer can be found for a historic city foundry facing the threat of closure.
Castmaster Roll, formerly Davy Roll, based at the Eagle Foundry on Stevenson Way, Attercliffe, has gone into administration with the loss of 26 jobs and a further 44 at risk if a new owner is not found.
Sheffield MP Clive Betts has called for an investigation into how the company’s financial problems occurred.
The Stevenson Road site has been used a roll making facility for almost a century, with Castmaster producing iron and steel quality rolls, discs and sleeves for the manufacturing and food processing industry.
Master Cutler David Grey MBE said he was hopeful administrator KPMG would be able to find a new buyer for the foundry to save staff jobs and keep the site in use.
“I hope they will find a new buyer. KPMG is a new competent administrator,” he said.
“If they can find interested parties, they will do.”
He added that despite the financial difficulties affecting Castmaster, many manufacturing businesses in Sheffield are starting to recover from the effects of the recession, which he said took a ‘big toll’ on firms in the industry.
