Chesterfield Council’s planning committee has given the go-ahead for the refurbishment of the town’s 154-year-old, Grade II listed Market Hall.
Council leader John Burrows said: “This development is going to be one of the town’s most exciting projects as the Market Hall is such a well used and much loved building.
“The plans we have for the Hall will not just see a major upgrade to the building itself but will add a completely new dimension to the town’s shopping offer and provide fantastic facilities for local residents and visitors to enjoy.”
Tenants will move to a temporary building, after Christmas, so that work can start in February.
Wates Construction, in conjunction with Mace, will be managing the project and will be organising a series of events to find local sub-contractors for the different elements of the building work.
