This year will mark the start of a transformational period for Sheffield City Region’s economy, according to Giles Searby, chair of the LEP Sector Group for Business Professional and Financial Services.
Giles, a dispute resolution partner at hlw Keeble Hawson, made the prediction based on an increase in business confidence, deal activity picking up in the property and corporate sector – and the expectation of Government backing.
In December, the LEP delivered its Strategic Economic Plan to Whitehall asking for support for major economic initiatives.
He said: “There is undoubtedly a marked increase in business confidence in the wider market and, for that to feed through to tangible growth for the Sheffield City Region economy, requires government backing for the vital initiatives – all of which entail the private sector being heavily involved or taking the lead.
“As chair of the sector group, I work alongside enthusiastic like-minded professionals who recognise we all have a part to play in realising these schemes, whether it be the planned Growth Hub, encouraging businesses to export – or supporting projects regarding access to finance.
“The mantra to my sector is ‘help to grow the pie and your slice will grow with it’.”
