A company that is on course to make a staggering 1.4m wheelie bins this year was a worthy winner of the Excellence in Manufacturing award.

MGB Plastics, the UK’s leading manufacturer of wheelie bins, picked up the coveted gong at the Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber awards.

Ross Schofield, general manager, said: “I am delighted to receive this award on behalf of the whole team at MGB. It is the perfect culmination to a very successful year, which as always is down to the people.

“It is often glibly said that a company’s best asset is its people and I firmly believe this - and feel very lucky to have such a dedicated and committed team at MGB.”

The award was sponsored by Brook Corporate Developments. Specialised Laser Products and Wintwire Ltd were highly commended.

The NPS Barnsley Business Community Impact Award was won by One Barnsley Apprenticeship Pledge.

Colin Booth, Barnsley College principal, said: “Having launched the Pledge 18 months ago, we have received astounding support, with now close to 200 businesses supporting it, employing over 600 apprentices. We hope winning will encourage other organisations to get on board and provide more opportunities for local people, to benefit local industry.”
