Helping higher educational institutions to maximise new income streams by working with the private sector and setting up international partnerships is just one of the services offered by DLA Piper education specialists, based in Sheffield and Leeds.

Sheffield-based Richard Taylor’s work, advising on free school projects and academy conversions, is highlighted in the Legal 500 and clients include the Department for Education and the University of Sheffield.

Irwin Mitchell’s educational department focuses on IT procurement and management, real estate and regulatory issues.

Michael Longden and Laurence Gavin are seen as key members of the team, which has specialist expertise in helping to set up new and innovative education ventures and advising educational charities.

Both DLA Piper and Irwin Mitchell are placed in the second ranking of Yorkshire’s educational specialists, ahead of Nabarro, whose team is led by Mark Rocca and has a national focus. Nabarro has a reputation as an adviser on local authority education, PFI and BSF projects, and academy conversions, and its team includes Tim Shaw, who led on the major PPP scheme for Sheffield University Technical College.
