Bankers from Sheffield have helped a Scunthorpe college to create a state-of-the-art teaching block which gets a fifth of its energy from renewable sources.

Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking team in Sheffield is lending John Leggott College £2 million towards the £4 million building, which is now home to the college’s English, Geography, ICT, Performing Arts and Travel and Tourism departments.

Lloyds Bank provided the loan through a European Investment Bank scheme, which offers preferential rates.

The new building incorporates solar panels, heat pumps and rainwater harvesting.
