An innovative children’s play equipment specialist is targeting business in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany, after Rotherham Investment & Development Office helped it to translate assembly instructions for its products.
Dinnington-based Little Helper was launched by husband and wife team Kim and Sean Johnson after they created the FunPod, which allowed their children to join in cooking and other activities at kitchen unit level without the risk of falling.
The FunPod is sold by major retailers, such as Mothercare, Amazon, Boots, Kiddicare, Hamleys, Early Learning Centre and Tesco and Sean and Kim have gone on to design other pieces of innovative furniture for children, which has helped their business grow by 30 per cent a year.
Sean Johnson said: “This is a very exciting time for our business.
“We have had some great support from RiDO in developing the export side of our business and see tremendous market opportunities internationally for our products. Around nine per cent of our turnover is currently from export, but this is set to grow dramatically over the coming months.”
Translating the assembly instructions has enabled Little Helper to secure new distributors in Eastern Europe.
The company is poised to significantly expand its range with 10 new products and is also about to become the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor for Swiss company ‘Oops.’
RiDO business development co-ordinator Julia Millea said: “Little Helper is a fantastic success story and it has been great to be able to help them to become established in other European markets. There are huge opportunities to sell their innovative products overseas and we look forward to watching their continued growth and success internationally.”
