Lengthy rail delays in South Yorkshire after tree falls on line

A fallen tree is causing major disruption to rail services around South Yorkshire this afternoon.

A tree on the line near Wombwell has resulted in some Northern Rail services between Sheffield, Leeds and Huddersfield being delayed for more than 30 minutes.

The incident was reported shortly before 3.30pm this afternoon and Network Rail engineers have been sent to the scene to assess the problem.

Disruption is expected to continue past 6pm this evening, with several services through Barnsley affected and other routes changed.
