Anthony Long, chief executive of Sheffield solicitors, Taylor&Emmet LLP, reviews the firm’s continuing prominence in The Legal 500 2015.
I believe it was the great American author and humourist Mark Twain, who once wrote, “I can live for two months on a good compliment.”
We all need praise occasionally and it gives me – and my colleagues at Taylor&Emmet – great pleasure to read the kind words many of our talented solicitors have attracted in this year’s edition of The Legal 500.
It is especially rewarding to see a number of young lawyers appearing in the industry guide for the first time, most notably James Drydale and Paul Fouad from our well-regarded clinical negligence team, who are described respectively as “totally professional” and “thoughtful and imaginative.”
John Green, son of former partner, Vincent, is rapidly making a name for himself as a leading personal injury specialist.
He is recognised for a second year alongside department head Jonathan Stittle for providing an “excellent overall service.”
As we have come to expect – modestly, I hasten to add – several of our partners have, once again, drawn praise, including Rob Moore and Paul Smith from our commercial litigation team who are noted to have “particular strength in the motor trade.”
Michaela Heathcote, one of the best known family specialists in the city, was lauded for being “good, empathetic and helpful,” whilst David Poddington, head of our employment law department, appears on The Legal 500’s elite list of leading lawyers for a third consecutive year. He is described as being “practical, commercial and responsive.”
Achieving independent recognition is always gratifying for those mentioned specifically, but no solicitor at Taylor&Emmet operates in isolation and as a result, every one of our 200 plus employees will bask in the reflected glory of this year’s results, at least for a little while.
Positive comments are important to us, but we put greater emphasis on what the thousands of local people and businesses who use our services have to say.
A recent client satisfaction survey found that 98 per cent of respondents rated the advice we provide as “excellent” or “very good” and a further 98 per cent said they would recommend Taylor&Emmet.
We know there is always room for improvement and during the past year we have invested significantly in additional, talented individuals at every level, across every discipline.
I am especially pleased to see our five trainee solicitors and growing group of legal apprentices showing good signs of progress. I look forward to the day they are earning the respect their more experienced colleagues have achieved.
It is my firm belief that only by investing in young talent and continuing to deliver unbeatable service, will we be able to attract new clients, retain those who have been loyal to us for generations and build a bigger, stronger business.
