Cartwright King and Irwin Mitchell are the two Sheffield solicitors that head the field when it comes to dealing with cases involving corporate crime in Yorkshire.
Led by Mark Fowler, Cartwright King’s Sheffield team maintains a leading reputation for dealing with fraud and serious crime cases.
The office has particular expertise when it comes to dealing with allegations of MTIC - or carousel – fraud involving VAT payments. It successfully represented an individual who was acquitted after the Operation Euripus investigation into a VAT fraud involving mobile phones, which was described as ‘one of the UK’s largest ever conspiracies,’ said to have cost the taxpayer £250m.
Irwin Mitchell’s work on very high cost fraud cases – or VHCC fraud is highlighted by the Legal 500, which says its team, including ‘leader in the field’ Dan Stowers and Paul Haycock has a growing private crime practice and has been handling some significant money laundering and mortgage fraud cases, in addition to tax investigations.
Howells – whose general crime practice is among the largest in Sheffield – also secures a place in the Legal 500 rankings.
The firm is regularly instructed in homicide and white-collar crime cases and Howells lawyer Daniel Simpson and his team work closely with the firm’s civil liberties group on cases involving potential miscarriages of justice, while Howells’ John Gibson is highlighted for his expertise in youth court cases.
