AN APPLICATION to extend experimental opening hours at a bar and restaurant on Sheffield’s Ecclesall Road is set to be rejected.

Studio 557, formerly the Walnut Club, at Hunters Bar, was allowed to open until 12.30am on a trial period and its owners are bidding to renew the consent.

But Sheffield Council’s city centre, south and east planning board has been recommended to reject the application at a meeting on Monday.

Planning officers say they have found the extended hours cause ‘unacceptable’ noise and disturbance to people living in nearby homes.

The recommendation was made after complaints from 18 surrounding residents.

Unacceptable noise and disturbance to surrounding residents are also cited as grounds to refuse a retrospective planning application by Meersbrook Garage, Meersbrook Road.

The garage is applying for planning permission for three extra bays it has already built, which are used for repair and maintenance of vehicles.

Planners say the scheme represents ‘unacceptable intensification’ of existing operations at the garage.
