Crosspool mum Jane Chapman, aged 48, a True Colours Image Consultancy colour analyst and style expert, and daughter Miriam, 10, a pupil at Lydgate Juniors, took last weeks Ready, Steady... Bake challenge and made Jess Dodds’ chocolate and yoghurt cake.

“We volunteered as I’ve tasted Jess’s fantastic baking before and Miriam loves baking. Our cooking started with a history lesson; Miriam wanted to know what ounces were!” says Jane. “The recipe was quick and easy but Jess gave times for a fan oven. Mine is a standard gas oven, so ours took longer - an hour at Gas Mark 4. I’d planned a quick melted chocolate and buttercream topping, but Miri had other ideas.”

Miriam says: “I recommend this yummy cake for people who love chocolate. We made it for Father’s Day and I decorated it with fondant roses and leaves and grated white chocolate.”
