A VETERAN runner who has been competing in marathons for over 30 years is limbering up for his next challenge - the London Marathon this April.
John Lyon, aged 57, of Hollow Meadows, is raising money for MapAction, a charity which produces maps of disaster struck areas, enabling aid agencies to help people most in need.
John has raised £400 so far, but needs to raise £1,500 by April 21.
This year’s London Marathon is on John’s birthday, and will be his tenth. He did his first in 1982 and is running every night in preparation.
Last year he ran the London Marathon one week after having norovirus, despite doctors saying he needed a month to recover. “I had sponsor money riding on it so I had to run,” he said. “After three miles I knew there was nothing in me, I was so tired, but I just plodded round.”
