Sheffield-based supplier of insulating materials and specialist building products, SIG has retained its place as the biggest employer despite also shedding more jobs than any other Top 100 company during the last year.

Numbers employed at SIG fell by 840 during a year in which almost half of the companies in the rankings shed jobs, although total numbers employed appear to have increased by more than 1,800.

Falls of around 90 jobs at Vasanta, the Sheffield-based office supplies company previously known as Kingfield Heath and 80 jobs at Mop Acquisitions – which trades as the independent gym group LA Fitness, mean they do not appear among the Top 15 employers this year.

Replacing them are newcomer Irwin Mitchell and Rotherham’s most profitable Top 100 company, seal maker AES Engineering.
