Manufacturing industry leaders are among a panel of speakers set to appear at an event exploring innovation in the sector.

Representatives from Sheffield Forgemasters and Pegler will share their views at the seminar next month at the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).

The event, which has been organised by Barclays in association with Deloitte, will explore what companies can learn from each other about innovation.

Professor Jesus Talamantes-Silva, managing director at Sheffield Forgemasters RD26, will be joined by Pegler Yorkshire’s head of new product development Steve Currid and Denzil Lawrence, technology transfer coordinator at the AMRC on the agenda.

Deloitte directors Matt Pickard and Dave Clarke from the innovation tax team will also address attendees, as well as Mike Rigby, Barclays head of manufacturing, transport and logistics.

Lee Collinson, head of North East and Yorkshire at Barclays, said Yorkshire’s manufacturers “continue to help propel our economy back onto an upward trajectory.” He added: “A continuing focus on innovation is generally accepted as being an important aspiration for companies looking to drive sustainable growth. While approaches to innovation will vary from company to company and from industry to industry, it’s clear that we can learn from each other and in doing so maximise our chances of success.”

The event on September 24 is aimed at technical, commercial and finance professionals. It will “highlight emerging trends in innovation across the sector”, as well as the support available to help firms looking to boost innovation, Mr Collinson added.
