GUESTS at Sheffield City College’s student-run Sparks restaurant enjoyed a right-royal meal for the national Big Lunch event.

The menu for 60 included terrine of salmon, cream of asparagus soup, rosemary-scented rack of lamb and Queen of puddings.

DINERS at the Showroom will be tucking into food grown on the premises this Saturday. Literally.

The venue has lofty aspirations after planting its own roof garden at Paternoster Row with seeds donated by Mark Gatter and Andy McKee at Farm In My Pocket. Sage, coriander, parsley and rosemary, beetroot, pak choy, spring onions and string beans are now flourishing on the rooftop.

To celebrate the first harvest, this Saturday the Showroom is hosting Home-grown Summer, an evening celebrating locally-sourced food. All food on the four course menu is sourced from within a 10-mile radius. Tickets are £25 (£20 for Showroom members). Book on 0114 275 7727.

LAMB in a host of guises is on the six-course menu at the Wig and Pen on Campo Lane’s £26 tasting night next Tuesday.

CHEERS to the Black Lion at Firbeck, which has won Pub of the Season 2012 from the Rotherham branch of CAMRA’s survey of over 1,000 pubs.

Rotherham Town Pub 2012 is the Bluecoat at The Crofts, originally the historic school set up by the Feoffees of Rotherham.

A Japanese Whisky Tasting is being held at The Sheaf View pub in Heeley at 8pm on Tuesday. Book to taste five varieties.
