BUSINESS is booming at a South Yorkshire-based internet retailer - which has announced plans to hire another 500 people.
ASOS plans to take on the extra staff at its warehouse in Grimethorpe, Barnsley, which already employs 1,000 people, after publishing figures which showed that during the first quarter of 2011/12 sales were up 69 per cent on last year to £104 million.
The extra jobs will be seasonal posts for Christmas but chief executive Nick Robertson said many would be kept on.
ASOS said UK retail sales had grown by 15 per cent, compared with last year - but international retail sales leapt by 160 per cent.
Mr Robertson said: “I am pleased to report a strong first quarter performance.
“Importantly the transition to our new single warehouse facility in Barnsley was completed during the period, on budget and ahead of schedule. The new financial year has started well and we remain positive.”
