A romantic dinner for two is the most popular way for couples to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

But in cash-strapped times, it’s out of many people’s budgets.

Dishing up a deluxe dinner à deux at home is a solution – but only if you’re confident in the kitchen.

Kind hearts at Ecclesall Road cafe Snap Deli have come up with a solution for their customers... ready-prepared two-course fancy dishes in a box.

“Snap Deli is very much a family place with the emphasis on affordable, hand-cooked local food; we know a lot of our customers aren’t able to get out on February 14, so a couple of years ago we invented Valentine’s Take Home & Warm boxes,” says co-owner Chris Gillingham.

Each heart-warming box contains one main and a dessert for £10. Lovers can indulge in slow-braised lamb in red wine with cheddar dumplings or Indian spiced cod in potato and spinach broth with coconut rice, plus plum, date and almond crumble or lemon and ginger cheesecake for afters.

“We cook meals with love, chill them in the fridge and add instructions on how to warm them,” adds Chris, who will be cooking up his own romantic dinner for two for his wife, who is 32 weeks pregnant with their first child. Take Home and Warm orders must be placed by noon on Monday February 11 on 0114 2686047 and collected no later than 6.30pm on Tuesday 14th.
