A HI-TECH camera, developed in Sheffield to give a surgeon’s-eye view of operations, is being unveiled at a top Middle Eastern health exhibition.
The video system, developed by Attercliffe-based medical devices company Sheffmed, allows surgeons to video operations for personal records or as a teaching aid.
The camera is fixed to a headband, incorporating a high-powered light that illuminates the site of the operation, and wirelessly transmits High Definition pictures to a remote recorder.
The system, made from ultra lightweight materials, will going on show at Arab Health, in Dubai, later this month.
Sheffmed will also be exhibiting a range of operating room consumables, including an innovative single use suction and irrigation device, designed to reduce fatigue for medical staff during keyhole surgery and a comprehensive range of suction tubes used in ear, nose and throat and facial surgery.
Sheffmed’s Export Manager, Akram Al-Saroori said: “We hope this year’s Arab Health will generate some key leads in international markets and allow us to establish distributors in the Gulf regions.
“Our aim is to develop innovative products that are striking in design and bring added value to healthcare professionals – and we will be demonstrating products living up to this ethos at the exhibition.”
