Business owners are invited to meet with the leaders of Rotherham Council to advise them of the challenges facing the business community.

The authority was taken over by five commissioners, led by Sir Derek Myers, in the wake of the damning jay Report, which highlighted how at least 1400 children had been sexually exploited in the town between 1997 and 2013.

The commissioners are welcoming business leaders to meet them and advise how the council should be run as part of a roadshow in the borough.

A council spokeswoman said: “As someone who lives or works in the borough of Rotherham, you will have strong views about what’s good, what’s bad, what you’re proud of – and what kind of community you want to see for generations to come.

“It is always important for communities to have opportunities to discuss their collective future. Given the deeply saddening events which sent shockwaves through the town over recent months, in Rotherham, it’s more crucial now than ever that we have this conversation.”

Councillor Chris Read, council leader, will host and one of the commissioners will be attending. The free event is at the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce base at Genesis Business Park, Sheffield Road, Rotherham, on June 16 from 2pm.
