Raising money to help people living with breast cancer is as easy as one, two, tea...

To prove it, Sheffield Lord Mayor Coun Sylvia Dunkley got the cakes in and put the kettle on for a fund-raising strawberry tea in her parlour at the Town Hall.

Organisers of Breast Cancer Care’s summer fundraising idea hope scores of South Yorkshire women will follow suit and pick up their teacup challenge.

“Get together with colleagues, family or friends, buy or bake some cakes, add strawberries, put the kettle on and away you go,” says Helen Cameron, the charity’s Sheffield-based fundraiser for the North and Midlands.

“A Breast Cancer Care Strawberry Tea can be whatever you want it to be – a family picnic, a neighbourhood cake sale in your garden, a bake-off between friends or an office tea-break with a strawberry twist.

“It doesn’t matter if you raise £20 or £200 as every penny will help.”

There are around 10,500 people in South Yorkshire living with breast cancer and another 1,400 will hear the devastating news that they too have the disease this year.

“We want to be there for every one of them with emotional support and information,” says Helen.
