Vertu Motors has acquired Harratts’ Volvo and Nissan dealerships in Attercliffe Road, Sheffield in a deal worth £2.4 million.

Gateshead-based Vertu is the sixth largest car retailer in the UK . The deal brings the total number of sales outlets operated by Vertu to 106, a dozen of which are now in Yorkshire.

Vertu says the deal will mean its Bristol Street Motors brand moving into Sheffield for the first time, with the opening of Bristol Street Motors Nissan Sheffield.

The group now has nine Nissan outlets, making it one of Nissan’s largest UK franchise partners. Sheffield will be the group’s second Volvo dealership, following the opening of Vertu’s first Volvo dealership in Derby last year.

Chief executive Robert Forrester said: “We are delighted to announce the next step in our growth with both Nissan and Volvo.

“The new outlets will complement group businesses in the region in Barnsley, Doncaster and Chesterfield. This brings the number of outlets in the county of Yorkshire to 12.

“We are continuing to develop the group by adding to existing franchise relationships as well as exploring new manufacturer partners. This acquisition increases the group to 106 sales and aftersales outlets and will enable us to generate further profitable growth for our shareholders.”

Harratts says the sale of the Sheffield operation will refocus the Wakefield-based company on its traditional West Yorkshire heartland and allows the family owned and run business to concentrate on stronger performing parts of the group.

Harratts says it had a buoyant 2013, enjoying improved sales, creating new jobs and investing in its digital infrastructure.
