A training academy for hairdressers is having its style crimped by a fall in numbers.
The Leslie Frances academy has placed hundreds of apprentice stylists in hands-on training schemes at South Yorkshire salons over 25 years.
“Every year we have more 16-25 year-olds than we have places for. This year, it’s a different story,” said Denise Childs, co-owner. “We think many who want a career in hairdressing are being channelled into college courses instead.
“College courses are excellent but we know that many young people are ready to be in the workplace - and that the experience they get from working in a real salon as they are studying is invaluable. It makes them highly employable.”
Apply at www.lesliefrances.com or the Leslie Frances salons in Sheffield’s Fargate and Barnsley’s Eldon Street before July 11.
