Businesses, public sector organisations and citizens from across Sheffield are being urged to take advantage of the economic recovery and use it as the foundation for a drive to promote the city region and attract new inward investment.
That was the message from Sheffield Chamber of Commerce president, Stephen Williams, to guests at the 2013 Sheffield Business Awards.
Winners in 15 categories were revealed in a black tie ceremony attended by hundreds of people at Ponds Forge International Sports centre.
In his message to guests, Mr Williams said: “Sheffield is a city with a great heritage and, whilst it has suffered as much as most cities during the economic problems faced in the UK, we now have both the opportunity and the responsibility to grasp the growing recovery, to promote our city region and to bring inward investment into the region.
“It’s time for action, not words, and all of us, whether public sector, businesses or citizens, must be positive about our region.
“We need to celebrate what we have and stop being constrained by the past. All of us need to become ambassadors.”
Mr Williams hailed the business awards – organised by Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and The Star, with Elevation Recruitment as the headline sponsor – as an opportunity to celebrate the “special achievements of remarkable busineses and individuals.”
The awards were also a celebration of the region’s collective enterprise and evidence that the region was home to businesses and entrepreneurs that were grasping thet opportunities offered by a growing economy.
