Gift giving for sub-continent proves part of wedding market

India has a long-standing cultural affinity for silver and gold and plenty of producers, but Carrs Silver reckons there is a gap in the market.

The Holbrook company is exploring the prospects for working with an Indian distributor who wants to open a chain of Carrs-branded shops in the sub continent and capture a slice of the Indian wedding market.

“People spend tens of thousands of pounds on society weddings. Gift giving is phenomenal,” says Richard Carr.

The key to Carrs’ aspirations is that most Indian silver manufacturers are artisan makers, more suited to making at most small numbers of the same item.
