A SHEFFIELD engineering company has created a giant testing rig for some of the biggest wind turbines ever to be built.
Brightside Lane-based Ekspan has designed, manufactured and installed the rig which will test the blades, which are up to 80 metres long and will be used to power offshore turbines around the world.
Ekspan reckons the rig is made of some of the largest fabricated parts ever to leave Sheffield
Chief executive Matthew Dronfield said: “This unique opportunity to showcase the talents of our city region has resulted in economic benefits of over £3 million from this project alone.”
Ekspan was founded in 1990 to create products designed to control the movement of large structures.
