Julia Bradbury has pulled out of the Sheffield Business Awards - but the show will go on with television star Gethin Jones at the helm.

The Countryfile presenter announced her shock withdrawal just days before the event on Thursday, due to “unforeseen medical circumstances.”

Her replacement has almost as long a CV, Gethin Jones has had stints on everything from Blue Peter to the One Show.

Julia said: “Due to unforeseen medical circumstances I have had to withdraw from hosting Sheffield Business Awards. It was a very difficult and upsetting decision to make. But I know my replacement Gethin Jones will do a fantastic job.

“As my home town, hosting the awards was important not just to me but to my family too. It’s not a decision I have taken lightly and I do feel I’ve let the side down.

“But it’s a relief to know that the job has passed to someone so capable. I’m sure the Sheffield Business Awards ceremony will be an evening to remember.”

After running separate events for several years, The Star and Sheffield Chamber of Commerce have joined forces this year to create a super contest which has proved very popular.

The 15 categories were designed to cover the broad spectrum of business activities in the city. Winners will be revealed in a glittering black tie ceremony attended by hundreds of people at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

John Bills, Sheffield newspapers managing director, said: “The awards will be a high-profile showcase of the best in business. The Star is determined to play its part, alongside the Chamber, in raising the profile of Sheffield to stimulate growth in 2014.

“Be it in paper, online, or in our rapidly growing magazine The Business - together we can catch the eye of investors across the UK and beyond with the innovation and enterprise that exists in Sheffield City Region.”

Sheffield Business Awards feed into the City Region Business Awards. Winners are automatically booked a place in the prestigious regional event next summer.
