A TOP executive from Sheffield Forgemasters has reached the national finals of a prestigious business awards scheme for the second year running.

Peter Birtles has been shortlisted for the Institute of Directors’ Director of the Year Awards, following in the footsteps of Forgemasters’ chief executive Dr Graham Honeyman.

Mr Birtles gained his place in the finals for the large business category of the awards by being named Yorkshire Non-Executive Director of the Year.

As an non-executive director, he has been closely involved in Forgemasters’ programme to reinvest its profits in new plant, machinery and technologies.

He has also been involved in building up the skills of the engineering firm’s workforce.

Last year, Dr Honeyman won the large business category.

He went on to be named the first IoD Overall Director of the Year. Dr Honeyman also won the Global Director of the Year and The Investing for Growth Awards.
