Sheffield Forgemasters has launched a new company to capitalise on its research and development expertise.
The business, known as RD26, will carry out research and development work for Forgemasters and aims to take on an increasing volume of external contracts.
Forgemasters’ chief executive, Dr Graham Honeyman, said: “Research and development is the fastest growing area of this company and is fundamental to the strategy of the business.”
Group research chief, Professor Jesus Talamantes-Silva, a visiting professor at Sheffield University, who also sits on the research board at South Yorkshire’s Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, has been named managing director of the new company.
Professor Talamantes-Silva said: “What we have created at Sheffield Forgemasters since the management buyout in 2005 is a unique facility to conduct research and development work on live projects.”
