Derbyshire food manufacturers Thorntons and Greencore head the rankings of the Sheffield City Region’s Top 100 Manufacturers in terms of the numbers of people they employ.

Of course, in many cases, the jobs created by the top manufacturers that are based in the region are spread across the UK or even the globe.

That said, just over a third of the leading employers are owned by foreign businesses, among them Irish company Ballyvesey, US-based Jeld-Wen, Danaher and
Maple Leaf, Dutch-owned Wavin, Finnish firm Outokumpu and Japanese company Toyoda Gosei.

As with the other rankings, the leading manufacturing employers operate in a range of sectors – from steel production, forging and casting to joinery, tool production to plastic and rubber extrusion, from electronics to food manufacturing.
