Civil and structural engineering company Alan Wood and Partners has expanded to South Yorkshire, opening an office at the Advanced Manufacturing Park Technology Centre.

The new office is the Hull-based company’s fifth

Director, Chris Medlin, said: “Having an enhanced presence in the Sheffield and Rotherham area is very much a natural extension to our business, complementing our existing offices in other key parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

“Building on its strong engineering and manufacturing traditions, the South Yorkshire region has enormous future potential and we want to be a part of that. We already have an established client base in the area and the new Sheffield office will allow us to work more closely with these companies, with shorter travel times, and also provide an excellent opportunity to develop new business.”

Geologist and chartered engineer Jonathan Saunders has joined Alan Wood and Partners to set up and lead the Sheffield office, alongside senior engineering geologist Andy Borthwick.

Jonathan Saunders has more than 20 years of experience and particular expertise in the regeneration of brownfield sites, working on projects as diverse as a £110 million highway scheme and the redevelopment of former coking works.

He previously worked for regional and international engineering consultancies.

Andy Borthwick has 13 years experience working for international and local engineering consultancies in South Yorkshire and has been involved with projects ranging from gas storage facilities on the east coast, to multi-storey accommodation and residential developments.

Alan Wood and Partners was established in the 1960s and has 49 members of staff.

The company’s expertise covers civil and structural engineering, project management and building and structural surveying, and clients span sectors ranging from marine, education and healthcare, to renewable energy, transport, food and the domestic market.

The company recently completed a hi-tech site survey on a dock in Hull as part of preparations for the construction of the proposed Siemens wind turbine factory.
