Faster boarding on the buses

NEW technology is being launched on buses so elderly and disabled people can board more quickly.

From Monday, new technology will be on hundreds of Stagecoach buses in South Yorkshire and north Derbyshire, meaning concessionary travellers will be able to swipe passes – equipped with smart card technology – and not require a paper ticket.

Paul Lynch, Stagecoach Yorkshire managing director, said the new ticket machines will be on all buses and would make it easier for passengers with senior and disabled cards.

He said: “All they will need to do on boarding the bus is to place their card on to the reader with the photograph face up, keep it there until a green light shows and the machine beeps, remove the card and then find a seat.”
