The ‘very experienced and hugely commercial team’ from DLA Piper’s offices in Sheffield and Leeds put the firm in top spot when it comes to banking and finance.

Nabarro secures a place among the third-ranked firms, followed by Irwin Mitchell and then HLW Commercial Lawyers and Wake Smith & Tofields.

The firm is also the role firm with a South Yorkshire office to secure a mention for its banking litigation services, where it also leads the way and is praised for its strong legal advice and commercial drive.

The firm numbers major UK and global financial institutions among the clients of its banking litigation services and recent work includes acting successfully for Barclaycard Business in the Court of Appeal case.

Other clients include Anglo Irish Bank, BNP Paribas and Lloyds Banking Group

The Legal 500 highlights the in-depth knowledge of the head of Nabarro’s banking and finance practice, Dean Gormley, who was recruited from Halliwells, and describes Ben Hendry as being ‘superb in negotiations’ and very commercial.

Highlights of the year for the Victoria Quays firm include advising PH Investments.

James Bullock, who leads the team at Irwin Mitchell, is praised for being ‘excellent at finding solutions in an efficient manner’.

Recent successes for the firm include acting for Clydesdale on the £16 million funding of a major property development.

HLW’s practice, led by Roger Dyson advises clients including Santander, Lloyds and Bank of Ireland. Wake Smith & Tofields’ clients include Yorkshire Bank and HSBC.
