A Sheffield training company has won a contract to run three new colleges in Saudi Arabia.

The Employment & Skills Group will operate two female colleges and one male college in a cluster of new purpose-built facilities in Al Quwaiiyah and Dammam.

The deal was finalised and signed in Riyadh by chief executive Gavin Freed and the Governor of Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, Dr. Ali bin Nasser Alghafis.

The contract, awarded following an international competition, will run for five years. Employment-related skills and qualifications will be delivered to more than 6,000 Saudi students, when at full capacity, with their first year focused on English language training, viewed as essential when seeking business employment within the country.

Gavin Freed said: “We are delighted. Our belief, just as it is in the UK, is that education and employment-specific skills go hand-in-hand if young people are to stand a chance in successfully competing for jobs in today’s labour market. We’re looking forward to helping to shape the lives of young people across Saudi Arabia.”
