THE Government is being urged to extend its New Enterprise Allowance programme to encourage more business start-ups.
The call is from the Yorkshire Enterprise Club, launched by the Federation of Small Businesses to encourage entrepreneurs.
New Enterprise Allowance rules allow jobless entrepreneurs to apply for funding of £1,274 and a guaranteed loan of up to £1,000 after they have been claiming Jobseekers Allowance for six months.
The club wants the allowance to be available as soon as someone signs on for Jobseekers Allowance, for £3,692 to be available for a full year and the loan to be £2,000.
Club chairman Gordon Millward said: “With small business confidence only just above zero, the Government needs to be bold.”
